The Real Afganistan

Stormbringer post
Excellent writing from a recon Marine.  Probably the best I have ever read to describe what is really going on in that hell hole.
This country blows, man. It's not even a country. There are no roads, there's no infrastructure, there's no government. This is an inhospitable, rock pit shit hole ruled by eleventh century warring tribes. There are no jobs here like we know jobs.
They have no respect for anything, not for their families, nor for each other, nor for themselves. They claw at one another as a way of life.
They play polo with dead calves and force their five-year-old sons into human cockfights to defend the family honor.
Huns, roaming packs of savage, heartless beasts who feed on each other's barbarism. Cavemen with AK-47's.
This just affirms my belief that nuking the region into uninhabitable acreage is the only way to save this planet from this filthy scourge of Satan.

Freedoms

Over at Crusader Rabbit is a link to a story of a childhood in the 50s/60s.  At least I am assuming that is the time period.  Such freedoms we had as children. My shoes came off in summer - every year until I was in my 20s.  I never hurt my feet, with the exception of one bee sting.  Since my Dad was military, we moved pretty much every summer.  When we arrived at our new posting, we would spend the time exploring our new surroundings.  I believe that is one reason why I have an excellent sense of direction, and why I get great comfort from a walk in the woods.  My mother never drove us any where - we walked.   In fact, I don't think we saw our parents in the summer, except at dinner.
I have often thought how sorry it was that my daughter could never know such unbridled freedom growing up.

Over at Blazing Cat Fur is this related story

Frankenstein

Why, when I read this does Dr. Frankenstein comes to mind?
Now don't get me wrong I am glad that medical science can do almost anything.  I do also believe that God has given us the smarts to do these miraculous things.
Will we start building humans from other humans via transplants?  I cannot help but recoil.
