So he came up with this idea to give his "Woofter" a haircut. He put the word out that
he had a new Saskatchewan Lion that would attack anyone that tried to break in, or climb his fence. Would-be thieves saw the "Lion" from a distance and fled the scene.

Brilliant! If I didn't live in an apartment, I'd want one. unfortunately, Vic's ruse will only last so long, and then the word will get out on the street (dusty road, in this case) that the "lion" is really the same one that allowed them to break in before. Is the lion a cowardly lion or, too friendly? Until, the "lion" can bask in his new costume. Maybe it will give him courage.
