The Fine Art of Insulting

Laura at The Thinking Housewife takes exception to the crude insult uttered by a police commissioner in public.  I agree.  We must raise the level of our insults.  Base profanity is so common it hardly registers.   It is time to stand out above the crowd!

So, as a public service, I present to all of us the following alternatives:

“A most notable coward, an infinite and endless liar, an hourly promise breaker, the owner of no one good quality.”   All’s Well That Ends Well

“Thy tongue outvenoms all the worms of Nile.”   Cymbeline

“Thou clay-brained guts, thou knotty-pated fool, thou whoreson obscene greasy tallow-catch!”   Henry IV Part 1

Come one, Come all

If anybody in the DC, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania area is looking for something to do this weekend, the Frederick Celtic Festival is being held on Saturday, 9 May, 9am-6pm.
Frederick Celtic Festival
It is a great event (of course it is, I am involved in running it!) and the weather is going to be beautiful.  I ordained it so.

There is also an evening concert - separate admission - for the benefit of Operation Second Chance.  100% of the concert tickets will be donated.

Beltane was a week ago.  There will be no naked dancing.

Sing Along Friday Night

Another disappointment, another day.  So just sing along with Glenn and the boys.

I'm sorry for myself
I'm sorry for myself
So sorry for myself
Someone I love said good-bye
And no one's sorry for me that's why
I'm so sorry for myself

I'm blue as I can be
My man walked out on me
I'd go home and end it all
But fourteen stories is an awful fall
I'm so sorry for myself

I'm feeling mighty sad
I never looked so bad
I have lost my appetite
Couldn't eat my second steak last night
I'm so sorry for myself

So very blue am I
I wish I could die
Wish I had a nasty cough
I'd buy a gun but then it might go off
I'm so sorry for myself

I soon could end my woes
Down where the river flows
I would jump right in the sea
But no one may be there to rescue me
I'm so sorry for myself

Prayers Are Needed

My dear friends, I don't normally ask for favours but I know a good young man who could use prayers. Adam is Hayley's boyfriend and is in the hospital with cellulitis. While they finally have him on pain meds that work, he really isn't improving as far as the infection is concerned. So prayers for healing would be greatly appreciated. He also needs prayer for he is frightened he will lose his leg.  And as you can see, he needs to keep dancing with my daughter!
Thank you
UPDATE:  Adam is home now, and his leg, while still swollen, looks much better.  Antibiotics will continue, but he is off the pain meds.  Needless to say, he is still rather weak.

Annoying Survey

How well will you score?
I got 19 out of 64.  Far better than I thought I would.  I must be getting old!

Beard Musings

Beards/facial hair.  Love or leave it.
I came across this  article in the express so I decided to see if there were other articles (strictly limiting to 2014 articles) on the subject.
time to reach for the razor?
NYT says uncool?
UPDATE: Even Smithsonian Magazine
My nephews have beards.  One is short, the other longer.  My brother in law has had a beard since he retired.  My father and one brother have always gone without, my other brother has dithered over the years.
Me? I prefer a clean shaven face.  I realise it is a personal preference and have never bothered.  Except once - when we started dating he was clean shaven.  He later grew a moustache (at the bequest of another woman, but that is another story) and I did not like it.  So he shaved.  "She" insisted he grow it back and he did.  I never said a word, but that pretty much told me the position I had in his life.
So here I state my case:

Ewan McGregor

Sean Connery

Woman

Conclusion
Every one looks better in a kilt!
